Bringing creativity to Clacton
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
Our Commitment
Clacton Arts Centre is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the arts.
We value the contribution of everyone who takes part in our activities, visits our venues, volunteers with us, works with us or attends our events.
We will not unlawfully discriminate against anyone because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Dignity and Respect
Everyone involved with Clacton Arts Centre should be treated with dignity and respect.
Discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimisation will not be tolerated. Any concerns or allegations will be taken seriously and dealt with fairly and appropriately.
This applies to our team, volunteers, artists, tutors, performers, participants and visitors.
Access and Inclusion
We aim to make our activities, events and venues as accessible and inclusive as reasonably possible.
We recognise that some people may require additional support or adjustments in order to participate. We will consider reasonable adjustments and, wherever possible, work with the individual, their parent, carer or supporter to identify an appropriate way for them to take part.
There may occasionally be circumstances where we are unable to provide the level of specialist support an individual requires, or where participation cannot be managed safely despite reasonable adjustments. In these circumstances, we will discuss the situation sensitively with those involved and explore reasonable alternatives wherever possible.
If someone is unable to continue with a paid activity in these circumstances, an appropriate refund will be provided for sessions they are unable to attend.
Behaviour
Everyone taking part in Clacton Arts Centre activities is expected to behave respectfully towards others.
Behaviour that is discriminatory, abusive, threatening or seriously disruptive will be addressed. Where appropriate, an individual may be asked to leave an activity or venue.
Where the person concerned is a child or young person, we will normally discuss concerns with their parent or carer and seek an appropriate solution.
Serious incidents may be referred to the appropriate authorities where necessary.
Raising a Concern
Anyone who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment or other behaviour that breaches this policy is encouraged to raise the matter with Clacton Arts Centre.
Concerns can be raised with a member of our team or by emailing:
Concerns will be treated seriously, sensitively and, as far as reasonably possible, confidentially.
Our Responsibility
Everyone representing Clacton Arts Centre has a responsibility to support the principles of this policy.
We will make this policy available to our team, volunteers, participants and members of the public and will review it regularly to ensure it continues to reflect our activities and responsibilities.
